We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
That journey was not easy. I grew up poor, in and out of the projects, trailer parks, or whatever place we could find that would let us live there. I saw a lot of heartache and pain as a child along with things I knew I never wanted to become. I didn’t really have role models but I did have people I knew I didn’t want to be like. So, I worked very hard to break the cycle of addiction and pain. I knew that I would be a statistic if I didn’t break that vicious cycle and I knew it would be a long and hard road. I told myself I would never have to ask anyone for anything and I’ve done just that. I don’t believe you can teach work ethic or motivation but I knew those were traits I needed to have to be successful.
